Before the what style is, here’s why it’s important.

👉 When your wardrobe is built around your personal style it’s to get dressed because everything in your closet will feel good and look good on your.

👉 When your wardrobe is build around your personal style you realize that you don’t need a lot of clothes in order to have a lot to wear.

There three pillars to your personal style. Yup, just three. It may seem like personal style is this complex quantum physics problem you can’t solve unless you’re an expert. In reality you’ll be shocked to learn that personal style boils down to just three simple things. Knowing and understanding these three components of personal style will get you on the path to identifying yours and building it into your wardrobe.

Ok, ok. Let’s get to it already. Right?!

Here they are. Here is what personal style is made of ⬇️

It may seem too easy, too good to be true. Is that all personal style really is? Let’s break it down.

1. Color

This all about colors that look good on you. What is your personal color pallet? Knowing what colors best compliment your natural complexion and skin tone is an essential part of your personal style. Are you a winter or are you a spring? Do you look best in brights or muted tones? You want to look and feel confident in the clothes you are wearing, they should feel natural for you to wear. If you have to load on the makeup in order to “look good” in a certain color, chances are that it’s NOT a good color for you. This is will directly impact your ability to mix and match pieces together in your closet and create different outfits. The magic is in the fact that colors that compliment you will compliment each other. You will have no problem matching different pieces together in your closet because they will all be in a color pallet that works together!

2. Pattern + Print

This is exactly what you imagine it to be. Pattern + prints that you like to wear and feel comfortable wearing. We’re talking stripes, floral, paisley, polkadots, gingham, plaid, graphics, etc. If you are preppy stripes are most likely your entire personality. If you are romantic florals are probably abound in your closet. If you are edgy there might be a lot of graphics you love to wear. This is where you are urged to fight the peer pressure to ‘go outside the box’, or be more ‘adventurous’. Don’t do it! Those will be the pieces that hang in your closet with the tags still on them unworn for months on end. Remember, the goal is comfort not costume. If you want to get more adventurous with your style there are better ways to do it than to try and wear things aren’t right for you. When you have worked to build a wardrobe with patterns and prints that are right for your style you will hem and haw less when trying to get dressed, because everything in your closet will be something that you are comfortable wearing!

3. Details

As the saying goes, the devil lives here. What are details, and which ones should you avoid? Details are things like tassels, crochet, lace, eyelet, buckles, sheer panels, etc. The extras that make a piece of clothing unique, special, and give it personality. Your style preferences will impact details you should avoid and which you should wear. If you are romantic eyelet will be great for you. If you are edgy sheer panels will be perfect. If you are boho you might love crochet. You might find this pillar of your style more tricky to navigate, that’s ok. Nailing down your exact style perfectly every time will take practice, with some trial and error.

So now what? What if you don’t know how to tell if you are preppy, romantic, edgy, boho, sporty, casual, or classic?

If you are struggling to look through the colors, patterns + prints, and details in your closet to determine what style you are we can help with that. Don’t stress if you can’t pin point one style because there are too many different ones in your closet, or what if you feel like there is no style at all in there!
